Pope Francis’ Encyclical on the Environment

This is a day of rejoicing, a day the world has long awaited! Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment, has been released, with the words of St. Francis of Assisi “LAUDATO SI’, mi’ Signore” – “Praise be to you, my Lord” as the title. This encyclical brings us great hope that the work of the Holy Spirit will be more effectively activated to touch into the hearts and minds of people, bringing a deeper consciousness of how intimately we are connected to the beauty, awe and magnificence of planet Earth and how all life is sustained and flourishes through its abundant gifts.

We, at the Mercy Centre for Ecology and Justice, pray that this encyclical will bring all of us to a place of greater reverence, respect, and love for God’s handiwork, planet Earth and all its inhabitants, so that all life will thrive.
In the fall we will begin a study of the encyclical. We invite you to join us to begin that study at the Mercy Centre for Ecology and Justice, Thursday, September 10 and Thursday, September 17, 2015

The encyclical can be found at http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html

Pope Francis’ Encyclical on the Environment is certainly calling for a change in consciousness . It is asking us to reconsider a view of the world from the dominant paradigm of the domination over all Creation to one where we see the Planet Earth as our Mother, as a shared home with many , and this includes biodiversity, air, water, and the oceans.
